Description:
The Safe Opioid Prescribing Course includes a Webinar Series (3 webinars), followed by an in-person Skill Development workshop.

Course Goals
This Series of Courses has been created to assist physicians in acquiring knowledge and learning new skills in the field of pain management, especially in the area of chronic non-cancer pain.

Develop multi-modal approaches to complex chronic pain.
Initiate & manage safe & effective opioid therapy.
Prevent & address addiction to prescription opioids.
Develop communication & collaboration practice skills to better manage opioid therapy for your chronic pain patients.

Learning Objectives

Manage problematic situations with chronic pain patients
Patients on high doses of opioids who are dysfunctional, but not addicted.
Patients at high risk of addiction
Patients using opioids illicitly
Effectively communicate with chronic pain patients their
Necessity of tapering opioid dose
Diagnosis of addiction
Addiction treatment options
Develop approaches and practice tools to work with other health care professionals to manage complex patients
Pharmacists
Acute care physicians
Pain and addiction specialists
Approximately two weeks prior to the course date, and with your paid registration, you will be provided your pre-course assignment and location information for the workshop. Following the workshop you will be required to complete a post course practice application assignment that will be submitted electronically.
