Description:
At the conclusion of this program, the participant should be able to:

Identify the major classes of oral chemotherapeutic agents available on the market and recognize implications of the rapid rate of projected growth.

Recognize the special considerations and key medication safety issues facing patients prescribed oral chemotherapy, their families, and healthcare professionals caring for them.

Summarize the role and pharmacology of oral chemotherapy agents used in some of the most common cancer types, including indications, dosing considerations, pharmacokinetics, and drug interactions.

Discuss important content to include in patient education for each of the most common classes of oral chemotherapy medications such as adverse effects, drug interactions, and the importance of medication adherence.

Describe how to monitor for and manage common toxicities, including recommending dose adjustments and supportive care medications.

List guideline-based recommendations for safe handling and disposal of oral chemotherapy medications for patients and pharmacies.

Identify best practices for supporting patients taking oral chemotherapy during a hands-on activity in which attendees will work through patient cases and make recommendations for therapy selection, dosing, monitoring, and supportive care based on progressive scenarios.
