Description:
Cleveland Clinic and the American Association for Thoracic Surgery present 21st Century Treatment of Heart Failure: Synchronizing Surgical and Medical Therapies for Better Outcomes, an educational event for all health care providers who care for patients with heart failure.

Despite significant advances in heart failure management, including pharmacotherapy and devices, and extensive collaborative efforts among professional societies to disseminate evidence-based practice guidelines for management of chronic heart failure, morbidity and mortality remain high. More than one-third of patients with heart failure are re-hospitalized within weeks of hospital discharge. As our population ages, the number of patients afflicted with this disease and economic burden will grow.

Now in its 16th year, the Summit will feature a faculty of world- renowned cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons who will offer a clinically relevant review and discussion of current and future therapies for managing heart failure.

Focused sessions include optimization of medical therapy, management of acute decompensated heart failure, decision making with short- and long-term mechanical circulatory support, cardiac transplant, and critical updates and refining outcomes in the setting of destination therapy.
