Description:
Chronic hepatitis C (HCV) infection remains a significant cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. In the United States, more than 4 million people — over 1% of the population — are living with chronic HCV, and over half of those infected remain undiagnosed. Chronic HCV confers a high lifetime risk of cirrhosis, end-stage liver disease, and hepatocellular carcinoma, and is a leading indication for liver transplant in the US. In recent years, the landscape of HCV therapy has fundamentally changed and finally a cure is likely for the vast majority of patients infected with HCV. Topics to be addressed include evidence-based guidelines for screening, diagnosis and staging; newly approved HCV regimens and practical information regarding treatment protocols; an update on HCV agents currently in FDA review, and treatment approaches in special populations — including patients with advanced liver disease, HIV co-infection, and advanced renal disease.

Target Audience: This course is appropriate for physicians in family practice, general practice, internal medicine, gastroenterology and general surgery. This course is also appropriate for allied health professionals with an interest in inflammatory bowel disease.
