Description:
On behalf of the New Zealand Branch of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists we would like to invite you to the 2016 New Zealand Branch Meeting.

Earthquake strengthening work at Hawkes Bay's only suitable convention centre has prevented hosting the meeting in Napier, and so the meeting will again return to Te Papa in Wellington. Te Papa has proven to be an excellent venue for previous New Zealand Branch Meetings. With it's perfect location within the Wellington CBD, there is easy access to accommodaton, shopping, restaurants and activities.
We will be providing a wide ranging scientific meeting, but have placed particular emphasis on drawing together diagnostic radiology and radiation oncology.
We are arranging a significant session on advances in diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer, and the greatly improved prognoses now achievable.

Lung cancer screening is gaining acceptance in North America and we have invited Dr John Mayo from Vancouver, Canada who will describe the progress and justification for lung cancer screening. This session will include presentations from thoracic surgery, radiation and medical oncology.

Following the interest in CT radiation dose presented in Rotorua this year, Dr Mayo will develop that theme further. Advances in MSK will be led by Dr David Wilson and Dr Gina Allen of Oxford, England. We intend to focus on therapeutic aspects of MSK imaging. Dr David Milne is to chair an MDT on interstitial lung disease on the Sunday morning, which will be fascinating.

We are excited to present a Radiation Oncology programme again, after the successful meeting in Rotorua. We are planning an exciting programme with excellent speakers. In addition to the Combined Plenary Session on Advances in Lung Cancer, we want to discuss the place of PET imaging in the future of Radiation Oncology. We are very interested in your experience. The programme will again include a business session providing a forum to discuss issues affecting Radiation Oncology in New Zealand, as well as a wonderful opportunity for networking with colleagues from around the country.

A vibrant social programme is being developed including family centred activities. The multiple other exciting distractions of Wellington are well known. We are working closely with our colleagues in the medical imaging industry to maximise the value obtained for them to appraise us of developments in our field of interest and provide the dialogue that encourages their enthusiasm to help us provide such vital meetings by their continued sponsorship.

We look forward to welcoming you to Wellington.

Radiology Convenor

Dr Rix du Plessis
